EHS - Positions on WEEE and RoHS GE Fanuc is committed to compliance with its obligations under the European Union’s WEEE and RoHS requirements and timelines. WEEE - WEEE: Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment EU Directive 2002/96/EC The EU implementation deadline for WEEE was August 13, 2005 although actual member state deadlines vary. A listing of GE Fanuc’s parts that are subject to WEEE is available from your GE Fanuc channel manager, sales person, or by contacting us directly at weee@gefanuc.com
- Recognizing that member states’ regulations implementing WEEE may differ in their producer definitions and requirements for each participant in the supply chain, GE Fanuc has taken the following steps to assist our distributors and customers with collection of GE Fanuc products at the end of their life cycle:
- GE Fanuc began marking its finished products in accordance with WEEE labeling requirements effective August 13, 2005; and
- GE Fanuc has established a relationship with a Pan-European collection network to provide end-of-life waste collection and recycling services.
RoHS - RoHS: Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances EU Directive 2002/95/EC The EU implementation deadline for RoHS is July 1, 2006. GE Fanuc is committed to making parts compliant with the RoHS requirements and timelines. Based upon our evaluation of the directive, we have reached the following conclusions and intend to take the following actions:
- Specifically for GE Fanuc's equipment, including PACSystems™, PLC, HMI, Operator Interface, and Motion and Drive parts, the design intent for these parts falls into electronic equipment Category 9 (Monitoring and Control) which is outside the scope of the RoHS directive. These parts are not currently required to comply with the RoHS directive.
- Specifically for GE Fanuc's Embedded Systems parts, design intent for parts within our portfolio falls into one of two electronic equipment categories: Category 9 (Monitoring and Control) or Category 3 (IT and Telecommunications). Category 9 products are outside the scope of the RoHS directive and are not currently required to comply with the RoHS directive. Category 3 products are in-scope for RoHS compliance. Beyond this categorization, GE Fanuc is taking a proactive stance to understand and meet additional needs for RoHS compliant products in the marketplace.
- Recognizing trends in the electronics industry and being good stewards of the environment, GE Fanuc currently plans to make all new Automation Equipment and Embedded System standard hardware designs fully RoHS compliant, subject to the availability of RoHS compliant subcomponents and technologies.
