Taking SCADA to the Next Level: Control to Calculations, Acquisition to Analysis

No man is an island, said the renowned English poet John Donne. Neither, it appears, is an HMI/SCADA system, if modern technology has any say.

Abstract

Not too many years ago, human machine interface (HMI) applications were simply that–isolated interfaces between human operators and the machines running the plant floor. Early HMI engineers would program HMI screens onto as many individual control panels as existed across an enterprise. Panels could be distributed across a single plant or around an entire facility, and were rarely connected over a local area network (LAN) or wide area network (WAN).
