Functional Architecture

How do you cut through the clutter and focus on getting your job done? Are Enterprise Resource Planning systems the answer? You have these business systems to run your financials, your Supply Chain logistics and your Warehouses, but, do they help you run your plant? What do they know right now about your plant floor? The reality is that ERP systems are not designed for plant floor environments and rarely enhance plant floor production operations.

GE Fanuc’s software capabilities span the Production Management space, combining the functionality of MES and EMI to give you the most complete, capable solution set for driving results on the plant floor and across the enterprise.

MES systems are typically characterized as the downward flow of information from the corporate business systems to the plant floor. Orders are generated in or fed to the ERP system and then dispatched to the MES system. The MES System then mobilizes the equipment, material, and other locale-specific resources to get the job done. The MES does this through direct integration with PLCs at the automation layer or by notifying human operators of what to do and when to do it.

EMI is characterized as the upward flow of data from the processes, equipment and operators, resulting in the real-time availability of detailed and ad hoc analytics and reports – for any amount of historical time, all focused on improving process performance and driving faster, smarter decisions.

Combining MES and EMI into a single, integrated software solution - built on a foundation of quality and compliance capabilities - provides a closed-loop between the plant and business that makes transformational results possible.
