With over 25,000 installations DataViews for Unix/VMS is the standard in development tools for creating dynamic graphics to monitor and control live processes. DataViews features an open architecture and full C API for the ultimate in flexibility and performance. Includes a plug-in for deploying applications on an intranet or on the Internet. The ideal tool for Unix/VMS developers with mission critical needs. (Sparc/Solaris 2.7, HP/HP-UX 11.0, Silicon Graphics/IRIX 6.5.3, IBM AIX 5.2, Compaq Tru64 v5.0, and Alpha Open VMS 7.1)

DataViews is made up of two complimentary tools that you can use to build complete, customized interfaces for your application. These tools are:

  • DV-Draw, which is an interactive drawing editor
  • DV-Tools, which is a subroutine library

DV-Draw

DV-Draw is a menu-driven software tool that lets you create complete graphical interfaces, from designing your screens to defining user interaction. This multipurpose interactive editor integrates geometry, data source, graph, dynamics, input, and prototype rule editing. Geometry editing lets you build graphic images using primitives such as lines, circles, polygons, and text. Data source editing lets you describe your data and bring it into your view for use by graphs and dynamic objects. Graph editing supplies various graph types and the ability to customize their appearance. Dynamics editing lets you add dynamic components to your graphical objects, letting them change color, size, orientation, position, and various drawing attributes. Static portions of a drawing can then provide a background or additional context for the dynamic portions. Input editing lets you create and customize input objects, which collect input from the user. Prototype editing lets you describe and simulate the behavior of your interface.

The drawing process requires no programming. You can create and edit a drawing by moving the cursor and making selections from DV-Draw menus. Primitives can easily be drawn and modified directly in the drawing area. The DV-Draw menus let you control all aspects of the editing process, including assigning display characteristics and specifying how your data is stored. Entering text is necessary only when you want to add text components to a drawing or specify a filename or title for a graph. DV-Draw provides default values for every element of a drawing. This lets you quickly construct a complete drawing using defaults.

DV-Tools

DV-Tools is a library of graphics routines, written in C, that works in conjunction with the DV-Draw editor. The routines range from low-level drawing functions to utilities that manipulate complex dynamic views. With DV-Tools subroutines, you can integrate DV-Draw views into powerful graphical user interfaces for a wide range of applications.
