“For events like the Olympic Winter Games, it is critical for the operational staff to keep track of equipment status,” said Lance Hall, General Manager of GE Energy’s rental business. “By utilizing remote energy monitoring, our technicians can effectively monitor any changes to equipment through one central system.”

GE Energy’s rental business provides temporary power and heating

The XX Olympic Winter Games held February 10-26, 2006 in Torino, Italy utilized 600 diesel generators. This is what it takes to keep the Olympic Games running in today’s high tech, high energy world. And, TOROC, the Torino Organizing Committee for the XX Olympic Winter Games, was charged with making sure everything ran smoothly.

TOROC managed all sporting venues, the Olympic Villages that hosted the athletes, the media villages, the main press center and the International Broadcasting Center; produced and distributed the television signal to all broadcasters; and outfitted and guaranteed the smooth functioning of the technological services from telephone lines to timekeeping and servers. The backbone of this effort is something we almost always take for granted: power.
