Achieving operational excellence requires you to collect and optimize vast amounts of data from across your operations for true process visualization.Proficy Historian is built specifically for manufacturing and process data acquisition and presentation. It offers key advantages, including built-in data collection capabilities, faster speeds, higher data compression, robust redundancy, enhanced data security and quicker time to value. As a result, you can leverage increased process visibility for better and faster decisions, increased productivity and reduced costs for a sustainable competitive advantage.

Proficy Historian delivers data collection and time-series data optimization to enable true process visibility. Proficy Historian’s critical capabilities manufacturers need to consider that position it as a better option for leveraging raw data from sensors and other real-time systems to improve production for operational excellence.

Improving Processes Across the Business
Proficy Historian ties together islands of automation information without compromising data resolution and provides a window into your manufacturing operations. They serve as the vital link between plant operations and business systems, providing an integrated view of your operations with accurate, real-time information.  You can easily integrate with OLE DB-aware applications and query the data, alarms and events, and system and administrative information using standard SQL commands.

Built-in Data Collection That Leverages OPC and Specific Built-In Drivers to Legacy or Non-Standard Equipment
Proficy Historian has built-in data collection capabilities and can capture data from multiple sensors and systems. It can collect large volumes of real-time plant floor information from various plant-floor devices at incredibly high speeds. It is ideal for capturing data from sensors and other real-time systems because it uses manufacturing standards such as Object Linking and Embedding for Process Control (OPC), which facilitates communications by providing a consistent method of accessing data across devices.

Faster Speeds
In contrast, a plant-wide historian provides a much faster read/write performance over a relational database and “down to the millisecond” resolution for true real-time data. This capability enables better responsiveness by quickly providing the granularity of data needed to analyze and solve intense process applications.

Higher Data Compression
The powerful compression algorithms of Proficy Historian enables you to store years of data easily and securely online, which enhances performance, reduces maintenance and lowers costs. You can configure GE Fanuc’s Proficy Historian without the active maintenance and back-up routines that a traditional RDB requires. Archives can be automatically created, backed up, and purged—enabling extended use without the need for a database administrator.

Robust Redundancy for High Availability
Proficy Historians covers three areas, first clustering at the data store much like an RDB, as well as another level of redundancy at the collector function, which is a critical component. If there are mission-critical data collection points, the collectors themselves can be configured in a redundant fashion. Proficy Historian also addresses network and server disruptions through a “store and forward” capability, which buffers data at the collector should a disruption occur. The buffers are eventually uploaded when the server comes back online with automatic reconnection ensuring no data loss.

With these three levels of redundancy, Proficy Historian offers the highest level of availability.

Enhanced Data Security
Proficy Historian is designed to enforce higher standards of data security. You can implement security for historians at the functional group or down at the tag level. Furthermore, is tracks just about all changes by default, including user access, configuration changes, security violations and system alerts; they even keep a copy of original tag values if altered.

Quicker Time to Value
When installing a Proficy Historian, you can “normalize” the implementation, using standard interfaces to decrease implementation time by approximately 50%. You also don’t need to manage or create data “schemas,” triggers, stored procedures or views—resulting in quick installation and configuration without specialized services such as custom coding or scripting.

Data Governance
Data Governance is a quality control discipline for assessing, managing, using, improving, monitoring, maintaining, and protecting organizational information. Proficy Historian is designed for high availability and to be fault tolerant to insure the proper collection, storage and accessibility of important production data.

Proficy* Historian from GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms is a powerful plant-wide data historian that collects, archives and distributes tremendous volumes of real-time plant floor process information at extremely high speeds. GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms continues to enhance this offering providing customers more value for their investment. The following are the key features for the version 3.5 release in August:

Virtualization Support
Many companies are reducing their costs and increasing their IT operation efficiencies by leveraging the benefits of server virtualization. GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms is taking the right steps to support these initiatives. Proficy Historian 3.5 will be supported on VMware ESX Server.   You now have an offering that supports a virtualization strategy for IT systems.

OPC Historical Data Access
Proficy Historian continues to support industry standards by adding OPC HDA along with OPC DA and OPC A&E. This is a great additional method for accessing historical data in Historian along with OLE DB, SDK, and the User API.

                Windows Memory Management
Proficy Historian can now access up to the full 4 Gigabyte range of memory that a 32 bit application is capable of doing on a 64 bit operating system. This greatly enhances its capability allowing the configuration of up to 500,000 tags per server. This feature allows corporate firms to consolidate all of their production / process data into one repository. Thus enabling them to analyze their processes to reduce cost, increase revenue, and meet regulatory concerns.

Dynamic Collector Updates
Proficy Historian provides high performance and high availability to its customers. Collectors will no longer need restarts for configuration changes. This enhances the 24X7X365 performance along with redundant collectors, clustered servers, and store and forward technology.

Replaced MSDE with SQL Express
Proficy Historian has upgraded the embedded relational database that ships with the product from Microsoft’s MSDE engine to the new SQL Server Express 2008. This offers several performance and capability enhancements detailed below.

Database Size – 4GB (from 2GB)
·          More alarm & event data
Platform Support - Vista
Workload Scalability – no governor
Application Deployment
·          User Instances
·          attach a database
Management Tools
·          SQL Server Enterprise Manager

Active Directory Security support
The Active Directory directory service provides single-logon capability and a central repository for information for your entire infrastructure, vastly simplifying user and computer management and providing superior access to networked resources.

Enhanced installation procedures
Proficy Historian will have the ability to be installed with other applications with a command line interface allowing it to be installed with products like HMI/SCADA or even an OEM solution. Proficy Historian components can be installed separately to support implementation rollouts.

Enhanced Microsoft Support
Proficy Historian will be updated and tested to work with the latest technologies available from Microsoft including:
       Server 2008
       Vista
       Excel 2007 (ribbon bar support)

Configure multiple archives
Proficy Historian is designed to have a low requirement for ongoing maintenance. It allows for new archives to be created, stored, and deleted. The ability to configure multiple archives expands this capability allowing disk resources to be allocated up front. This reduces conflict with other resource requests and insures the fluid operation of Proficy Historian without active intervention.
